The History of The Community Casa

In 1999 Jake Rapper, a member of The Bridge and former resident at the house on 2201 Morrill suggested to Pastor Wainer (former church planter and founding pastor of The Bridge Covenant Church), and his wife Magui, to think that the house could possibly be a place where The Bridge could have its office and its weekly events and programs.

Pastor Wainer the founding pastor of The Bridge, shared the vision with the men's group and the chairman Ed Elliott, and Magui with the women and as everyone in The Bridge saw the place the sense that God was leading us to buy the house became real. It was our 1st huge step of faith as The Bridge family and in 2000 the house was bought by The Bridge Covenant Church.

With the help of Modesto Covenant and few friends, we raised the initial down-payment of $24 thousand and with the help of the Covenant bought the house and then the extra three lots around the house.

One of the 1st decision made by The Bridge leadership was to name the house, "Community Casa" and make Pastor Wainer (who is now with Project Brazil) its first director. Such step was in line with The Bridge's vision to be a fully community involved fellowship of believers.

The Bridge's core-value was, and it is, to freely give their resource of time, talents and treasure to benefit everyone God places in our way and to be a positive force for good in our community. The Bridge also wanted to make sure that no one ever think that our community service was conditioned to ones beliefs and neither offered as a bait to bring people into their church -

The Casa' Services and Programs Are an Expression of The Bridge's Desire To Freely Give to Everyone What God Has Given Us.

Community Casa's name - half English (Community) and Spanish (Casa) was designed so to remind us, and make it clear, that the aim of the Casa was to be a resource center available to everyone. We want our Casa to be a Bridge to people in their needs and across the ethnic divide as well.

After the year of fixing the Casa was dedicated to God reflected in its many programs and services to the Community in Riverbank, and anyone who may find at the Community Casa a platform of opportunity for him or her to grow in their lives on earth; in every aspect of growth!
